Changes near Cardiff Castle
Any works located immediately adjacent to the castle require a Scheduled Monument Consent application. CADW has approved both the application and the proposed design, and they are overseeing the works on site.
When the work is taking place
The work is due to start in January 2026 and expected to run until January 2027. This will be confirmed once we have appointed a contractor.
We plan to start the work at the Kingsway junction and work round towards Westgate Street.
Traffic management and access
Knights Brown have been awarded the contract to deliver these works on behalf of Cardiff Council.
They will be responsible for:
- Maintaining access to all businesses and residences.
- Planning and implementation of the traffic management needed to do the work.
Two-way traffic on Castle Street will be maintained when possible. There may be temporary traffic lights set up to allow sections of the scheme to be constructed safely. Any closures will be communicated well in advance.
Access to shops and buildings will be maintained throughout the works.
We will work with businesses to make sure deliveries are not affected.
