School Streets

We want to ensure that children in Cardiff can travel to school as safely as possible. At some schools, problems with traffic congestion and irresponsible parking have raised safety concerns for pedestrians.

At these schools, where the location is suitable for the scheme and consultations and agreements have taken place, School Streets have been introduced to help children travel to school safely by reducing the number of vehicles outside the school gates, to promote active travel, and to reduce air pollution.

School Streets are areas around school entrances that are closed to vehicles during peak drop-off and pick-up times.

Only vehicles with valid School Street permits are permitted to enter School Streets during restricted times (term time only).

Signs inform drivers of the restrictions at the entrance to the School Street and any unauthorised vehicles entering during restricted times will be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice.

Residents, blue badge holders and carers can apply for a free School Street permit.
