Central Quay Active Travel Bridge
Cardiff Council have previously applied for Pre-application planning advice for the proposed Central Quay Active Travel Bridge and will be applying for Planning Permission this summer (2025). The proposed new shared use cycle and pedestrian bridge, crossing the River Taff in Central Cardiff aims to connect the new Central Quay development, on the former Brains Brewery site, with the community of Grangetown. Improved connectivity across Cardiff would provide the opportunity for socio-economic benefits to the local community, and it is recognised that the increased accessibility provided by the bridge would improve the resilience of the local transport network at time of major stadium events.

The wider connectivity benefits that the proposed Central Quay Bridge would offer include:
- Closing the loop – providing a circular route option in Cardiff city centre;
- Promote active travel – providing direct route for first and last mile journeys within Cardiff City Centre, reducing reliance on car journeys for some residents;
- Stadium event day resilience – an additional route to manage the flow of people associated with events within the Principality Stadium; and
- Connecting people to green spaces and recreational routes – provides more direct access from the proposed Central Quay development to existing green spaces on the west bank of the river Taff and access to the Taff Trail.
